Zulene (Melton) King

Zulene Melton King, 89, passed away unexpectedly Saturday Morning, June 13, 2020 at her home in Greenwood.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 at Odd Fellows Cemetery with James Johnson officiating. 

Zulene was born in Inverness to John and Louise Melton. She grew up there, graduated from Ole Miss and moved to Shell Mound after her marriage to Joseph Sherrod King, Sr.  In 1962 she moved to Greenwood, where she has resided for the past 57 years.  Mrs. King was a long time faithful member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Town and Country Garden Club, the Greenwood Garden Club, a life member of the Jr. Auxiliary, and was an avid bridge player.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe King; son, Al King; and daughter, Gencye Dickert. 

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Sherrod King, Jr.  (Bobbie) of Jasper, TX, and John King of Coldwater, MS; a sister, Frances McDonald of Meridian, MS; three grandchildren, Courtney Paschall of Weatherford, TX, Trey Dickert of Coppell, TX, and Marian Eckensberger of Coppell, TX; daughter-in-law, Lisa Dixon of Cleveland, MS; son-in-law, Bill Dickert of Coppell, TX and seven great grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mullin, Buddy Morgan, David Morgan, Jeff Crick, Don Johnson, and Chris Bush.  Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Henry Flautt and Craig Kent. 

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s research hospital or the charity of donor’s choice.
