William Earl “Butch” Overstreet, 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022 surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 2 P.M. Tuesday, February 1 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Williamson will officiate.
Butch was born on December 19, 1938 to Thomas Earl Overstreet and Murline O’Neal Overstreet. Butch was raised in Greenwood and was a graduate of Greenwood High School. After high school, he joined the Army Reserves where he received many awards and accommodations. Later, he went to Mississippi Delta Junior College where he received certificates for air condition and refrigeration repair, basic electronic repair, television repair, and basic brick laying. He retired from BellSouth after 30 years of services.
Butch was one of the original founders of the girls’ softball league in Greenwood. He enjoyed camping and water skiing with family and friends. He loved to build and race drag cars and race cars.
After 59 years of marriage, Virgie and Butch renewed their vows on December 25, 2021. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He always put his family first and enjoyed attending all their events.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Murline Overstreet.
Butch is survived by his beloved wife Virgie Fitts Overstreet; his two daughters Tammy Overstreet DeLoach (Dale) of Greenwood, Alisha Overstreet Mallette of Owens Cross Roads, AL; and one son William Thomas Overstreet (Andrea) of Gluckstadt, MS; six grandchildren, Kirsten Overstreet Robertson (Seth) of Inverness, MS; Dalton DeLoach of Holcomb, MS; Taylor DeLoach of Holcomb, MS; Brandon Mallette (Cameron) of Hoover, AL; Reece Overstreet of Gluckstadt, MS; Myles Overstreet of Gluckstadt, MS; two great-grandchildren, Ann Keeton Robertson and Campbell Robertson, both of Inverness, MS., and his beloved sister, Sarah Overstreet Riley of Greenwood.
Pall bearers will be Dalton DeLoach, Taylor DeLoach, Brandon Mallette, Reece Overstreet, Seth Robertson, John Mark Riley and Campbell Robertson. Honorary pall bearers will be Dale DeLoach, Myles Overstreet, Bill Reid, Steve Riley, Mitch Williams, Mack Alford, Billy Coaten, and Mike O’Neal.
The family extends a special thanks to Teresa Palmertree, Mary Flemming, and Jo Morman of Adoration Hospice and the staff of Sunflower Home Health.

Visitation will be at 4:30 to 6:30 PM on Monday, January 31, 2022 and 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.
