It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of William Everett “Butch” Clark, Jr. on November 2, 2025 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Butch was born on November 24, 1945, in Greenwood, MS, the second child of Janie Holly Clark and William Everett Clark, Sr. He was welcomed into the family by his big sister, Nancy. Butch was the great-great-great-grandson of William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
Butch was raised in Schlater, MS and moved to Greenwood in ninth grade. He graduated from Leflore County High School. Upon graduation, he immediately went to work for Lawrence Printing Company, where he remained actively employed. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. In May of 1968, Butch married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Ainsworth. They moved to Sidon, MS shortly thereafter, where they raised their beloved daughter, Jan Michelle, and attended Sidon Methodist Church.
Butch was a man who found joy in the simple things – enjoying the outdoors with hunting and fishing, spending time with his friends, and he especially loved his work and friends at Lawrence Printing Company. He was particularly fond of Florida and found peace and joy while at the beach. Butch was a true lover of life and his lively sense of humor could light up any room. He was a generous friend, who always gave with a glad heart.
Butch lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Butch’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 22 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Itta Bena Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Dearman and Pastor Michael Moneyham will officiate.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, William Everett and Janie Holly Clark, and his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise Clark. He is survived by his daughter, Jan Clark of Greenwood; a sister, Nancy (John) Gaugh of Greenwood; and a niece, Susan (Mark) Fleck of Chattanooga, TN.
Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Lawrence Printing Company.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leflore County Humane Society or the First United Methodist Church of Greenwood.
