Vickie Bennett, 68, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona. Funeral services are Thursday, December 11 at North Greenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Thomason and Dr. Jim Phillips officiating. Interment is in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Teoc. Visitation is in the church parlor from 9:30-11 prior to the service.
Vickie was born in Marks, MS to Carl and Ruth Slaughter and moved to the Greenwood area at an early age. She grew up here, Graduated from Greenwood High School and attended MS Delta Community College and Delta State University. She had worked for Roses, Gulf Finance and Sunflower Grocery. She had also worked as a Youth leader during the summer and taught music at St. John’s Methodist Church.
Vickie was a faithful member of North Greenwood Baptist Church where she taught the Glaad Sunday School Class. She won the MS Baptist Association Sunday School teacher of the year in 2013. She was such a delight to worship with and her absence has been greatly missed by the North Greenwood faithful.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Mallorie Thomason and Bess Thomason Smith. She is survived by her husband, Ken Bennett; two sons, Jay Thomason (Erin) of Tupelo and Sumner Thomason of Madison; Son-in-law, Ryan Smith of Carrollton; sister, Carla Dean (Tony) of Florence; brother Jeff Slaughter of Nashville; four grandchildren, Caleb Thomason, David Thomason, Daniel Thomason and Pinnie Kate Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be James Dean, Bradley Bianca, Lane Price, Daniel Thomason, David Thomason and Caleb Thomason. Ryan Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
