Tony Shan Joe, 90, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services are 1 P.M. Friday, December 29 with interment in Odd Fellows East Cemetery. Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate. Visitation is from 11 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Mr. Joe was born in Hoy Ping, China, July 3, 1933, to Dong C. and May Wong Joe and migrated to the United States while he was still a teenager. He graduated high school here and attended MS State University. Tony served his new country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean war. He and his family owned and operated Chew Grocery for many years. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, computers, photography and also loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ellen Wong Joe; three daughters, Janet Joe of San Francisco, CA, Ilene Yee (Kevin) of Cordova, TN, Amy Gee (J.D. Brasel, Jr.) of Itta Bena; two sons, Glenn Joe and Raymond Joe both of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Raymond Collins, Steven Yee, Jonathan Gee; two great grandchildren, Raymond Collins, Jr., Rae Lynn Collins; two brothers, Lee Joe (Sandra) and Phillip Joe (Mae) both of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Wong, Johnny Joe, Curtis House, Jerry Turner, J. D. Brasel, Jr., and Kevin Yee.
