Timmy Slaton Obituary

Timmy Slaton, 65, passed away Monday, August 3, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada. Services are 1 P.M. Saturday, August 8 at the North Park Church of God of Prophecy in Greenwood with interment in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Teoc.  Tim Winters, James McElroy and James Jones will officiate.  Visitation is from 10 A.M. to 12 noon prior to the service.

Timmy was born February 28, 1961 in Greenwood, MS to Thomas A. and Judy Jackson Slaton. He grew up in Greenwood and attended East Elementary and Greenwood High School. Timmy and his family attended the Church of God in Greenwood. Over the past fifteen years, Timmy and his wife have attended the Church of God in Grenada after moving from Greenwood to Carroll County.

He retired in 2022 from the Mississippi Department of Transportation as the maintenance supervisor of Carroll County after working for MDOT for 25 years. An outdoorsman, Timmy enjoyed crappie fishing and hunting deer, turkey and rabbit.  He also raised beagles to rabbit hunt.  A gifted musician, Timmy enjoyed playing and singing southern gospel music.  An activity he learned from his parents after they formed a gospel group including the parents, oldest sister and himself. He could play various instruments including piano, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and drums. Annually, he would host a gathering of musicians to enjoy a good jam session.

Timmy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Wiggins Slaton; a daughter, Ashley Kimes (Chris) of Starkville; a son, Ben Slaton of Teoc; 2 sisters, Debbie Prestage (Keith) of Water Valley, Diane McLellan of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Jax Kimes and Peyton Kimes of Starkville, Anna Flowers Hamrick, Braxton Slaton, and Sawyer Slaton all of Teoc; 3 Aunts, Jane Slaton of Greenwood, Nell Winstead of Greenwood, and Sharon Jackson Earp of Greendwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Timmy was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Teresa Slaton Tharp and Renee Slaton Powell.

Pallbearers will be Malcom Holmes, Goober Campbell, Mike Neese, Keith Carver, Trey Winters, Wade Winters, Jay Tharp, and Mark Wiggins.  Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Counts, Donny Sudduth, Ronnie Nichols, Matt Tharp, Thomas Clunan and Keith Prestage.

The family wishes to offer a special word of thanks to Dr. Jeff Moses and the staff of North Sunflower Clinic in Greenwood in addition to the staff of the Interventional Radiology Department at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
