Terry Wayne Kelly
Terry Wayne Kelly, 71, of Itta Bena, died Tuesday, September 7, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Born in Greenwood, Miss., on November 18, 1949, to the late Mable Wilson Kelly and Rex O. Kelly, Kelly was raised in Inverness, Miss., and graduated in 1967 from Leflore County High School. Kelly then attended Mississippi Delta Junior College and was in the U.S. Army Reserve at the Greenwood unit in Greenwood, Miss.
In August of 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Green Kelly of Itta Bena, having met her when she was in the 9th grade and he was in 11th. After living in Indianola for 17 years, Kelly and his wife moved to Itta Bena in 1990, where they would reside for the next 30 years. Kelly retired after 48 years in the field of commercial refrigeration and heating and cooling.
Kelly is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Green Kelly of Itta Bena; their sons, Wayne Kelly of Oxford (Kristin) and Matt Kelly of Madison (Marty); his brother Jimmy Kelly of Flora (Linda) and his twin brother Larry Kelly of Greenwood (Jennifer); and his brother-in-law Bill Carroll of Itta Bena. He was preceded in death by his parents Mable and Rex Kelly; his brothers Rex Kelly, Jr. and Fred Kelly; and his sister-in-law Eleanor Green Carroll.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 10, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home in Greenwood, Miss. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at Itta Bena Cemetery in Itta Bena, Miss., on Friday, September 10, at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Scott Wright will officiate.
