Susie (Blakely) Bailey

Mary Frances Blakely “Susie” Bailey, 91, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the University of MS Medical Center in Grenada.  Funeral services are 2 P.M. Sunday at Leflore Baptist Church with interment in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.  Rev. Miles Rainey will officiate.  Visitation is from 1-2 Sunday at the church prior to services.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Carroll County to Irby and Blanche Blakely and had been a longtime resident of Holcomb.  Prior to settling in Holcomb, she and her husband lived in numerous locations while he served in the military. She was a faithful member of Leflore Baptist Church and loved to read and care for family and friends.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cleve Hendrix Bailey, Jr. and a son, John Bailey.  Survivors include three sons, Irby Bailey (Lennie) of Grenada, Terry Bailey of Holcomb, Cleve H. “Henry” Bailey, III of Holcomb; a daughter, Marla Smitherman (Victor) of Holcomb; a brother, Irby Blakely, Jr. of Indianola; 3 sisters, Paulette Ellis (Bo) of Black Hawk, Linda Goss (Gene) of Grenada, Nancy Clanton of Slidell, LA; 12 grandchildren, Irby Bailey, Jr. (Lane), Michael Shannon  Bailey (Elizabeth), Belinda Bernard (Brian), Kerri Deason (Matt), Brian Bailey, Kimberly Shackelford (William), John Thomas Bailey (Cheslea), Patrick Bailey (Katie), Brandon Bailey (Kellie), Casey Bailey, Lauren Smitherman, Anna Smitherman; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Bailey, Casey Bailey, Brian Bailey, Irby Bailey, Irby Bailey, Jr, Landon Shackelford, and Colton Shakelford.  Honorary pallbearers are John Thomas Bailey, and Patrick Bailey.
