Shirley Hodges, 88, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Graveside services are 12:30 P.M. Thursday, March 7, at Bear Creek Cemetery in Morgan City with Rev. Preston “Butch” Kelly officiating.
Shirley was born in Sunflower County to James Wade and Dura May Burchfield and had been a resident of the MS Delta her entire life. She was a retired teacher’s aide for the Leflore County School system working primarily in the kindergarten department. She was a devoted member of the Morgan City Baptist Church. Shirley enjoyed cooking, shopping, and reading but mostly helping others in any capacity possible.
Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, Mancil Leonard Hodges, her parents, a son Michael Leonard Hodges, a daughter, Tammy Jo Hodges, and six brothers, Jasper Burchfield, William Burchfield, Bobby Burchfield, James Burchfield, Billy Burchfield and Dan Burchfield. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Barranco (Sam) of Meridian, Patricia Woodard (Sid) of Itta Bena, Kim Conn (Mickey) of Meridian; a brother, Allen Burchfield of Natchez; a sister, Delores Mullins (Jim) of Natchez; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
