Sam Kittrell Hodge, Jr., 73 passed away suddenly at his home in Carroll County, Saturday, December 31, 2022. Services are 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Lanny Haley officiating. Interment will follow at Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Teoc. Visitation is from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday prior to the service.
Sam was born to Sam Kittrell and Annie Wilcher Hodge in Carthage, MS. He grew up in the Jackson area, attended Hinds Junior College and the MS police academy. After graduating from the academy, he began work with the Greenwood Police Dept., which he retired from as Captain in 1992 after 20 years of service. He also completed training and graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA September 11, 1981. Following his retirement from the GPD, he worked from 1992-2016 as road foreman for Leflore County Beat One. Sam was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis Hodge. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joyce Hodge; a brother Mac Hodge( Debra) of Jackson; two daughters, Andrea Hodge of Jackson, Amy Bush (Ronnie) of Greenwood; a son, Sam Kittrell Hodge, III (Teresa) of Eutaw, AL; a stepdaughter, Mellonie Robertson (Russ) of Coila; a stepson, Aubrey Shaw, Jr. of Carrollton; 8 grandchildren, Stephani Beard Hodge, Morgan Taylor (Jeffrey), Russell Robertson, Jr., Cori Hodge, Taylor Shaw, Analise Bush, Hunter Huff and Walker Shaw and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bush, Russell Robertson, Jr., Marvin Boston, Eddie Gholer, Lewis Hodge, Jr., Jeffrey Taylor, Chip Cade, and John Walker. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Greenwood Police Dept and employees of Leflore County Beat one.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church or the Charity of Donor’s Choice.
