Robert Earnest “Roe” Hurst, 83 passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at St Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Services are 1:00 P. M. Saturday December 7 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Carpenter and Rev. Kevin Tribble officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Hill Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 11-1 Prior to the service.
Roe was born in Sunflower County to Jessie and Frances Hurst. He was a master plumber having over 40 years experience and worked a number of those years for Upchurch Plumbing. He loved to Turkey Hunt, Watch the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed old westerns. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie Jean Hurst, a brother Jessie Hurst and a sister Katie Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Rita Carpenter Hurst; four daughters, Tonya “Susie” Perry of Clarksville, TN, Teresa “Resse” Hurst (Ricky) of Greenwood, Christy Shields (Doug) of McCarley, Gail McKay (Brad) of McCarley; a son, Daniel Vest (Bridgette) of Carrollton, 13 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert Westerfield, Aubrey Westerfield, John Cohen Vest, Braden Vest, Will Smith, Van Gibson Mahan and Dustin Scott Mahan.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of donor’s choice.
