Richard O. Reed, 87, passed away Monday evening, July 26, 2021 at Riverview Nursing and Rehab in Greenwood. Graveside services are 11 A.M. Saturday, July 31 at McNutt Cemetery in Schlater with Rev. Randy Clayton is officiating.
Richard was born in Morgan City to John Belton and Gertie Peoples Reed, graduated from Greenwood High School and joined the U. S. Marine Corps. During the Korean War he served 18 months with the occupation forces. After the war he returned home and attended Delta State University and Sunflower Junior College. Richard worked for 39 years for the Farmer’s Supply Cooperative. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lela Frances Reed, a son, Mark Paul Reed, a brother, James Belton Reed, two sisters, Elaine Pittman and Doris Kidd Lewis and his parents.
Richard is survived by two sons, David Richard Reed (Jarvis) of Greenwood, John Buford Reed (Laura) of Olive Branch; two brothers, Charles Reed of Holcomb, Billy Reed of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Taylor Reed (Nicole) of Olive Branch, Colbin Reed of Oxford, Kathleen Reed of Olive Branch, Victoria Reed of Oxford; a niece, Anita Williams (Jay) of Carrollton and two great nephews, Jayme Williams (Megan) and Reed Williams (Lakin).
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Mims, David Kyle, Taylor Reed, Colbin Reed, Reed Williams, Jayme Williams and Paul Davis.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of donor’s choice.
