Richard Corder

Richard Dennis Corder, 79, passed away Wednesday morning, April 29, 2026, at his home in Carroll County.  Funeral services are 11 A.M. Saturday, May 2 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Denton McKay officiating.  Interment will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.  Visitation is from 9-11 prior to the service.

Richard was born in Greenwood and had been a lifelong resident of the Greenwood/Carroll County area.  He worked his entire adult life as an automotive technician for local dealerships and ultimately opened his own business.  He was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the church choir.

Richard loved playing softball, and later after his playing days were over, enjoyed watching his boys and his grandchildren play.  He loved to tell jokes and was the king of one-liners; it was a rare thing to cross paths with him and not leave laughing.  He was the most incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle imaginable, and he gave all of himself for his family and his friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Lemley Corder, his parents, Woodrow and Ethel Corder, and two daughters, Lemley Maronda Corder and Memrie Lawonda Corder. He is survived by his two sons, Richie Corder (Tracy) of Carrollton; Dickie Corder (Jenni) of Madison; a brother, Billy Earl Corder of Carroll County, and a sister, Betty Harrison  of Carroll County; six grandchildren, Zach Corder (Catherine) of Nashville, Drew Corder (Shelby), Matt Corder, Lexie Corder, Cruz Corder and Jade Corder all of Madison; 6 step-grandchildren, Rylee Wilson of Durango, CO, Carrigan West of Porter, TX, Savannah Saunders, of Portland, OR, Landree Spykstra of Fredericksburg, TX, Abree McMannis of Florence, MS and Lilly James Arnold of Greenwood, MS, one great grandchild, Richard Beckett Corder of Madison.

Pallbearers will be Richie Corder, Dickie Corder, Zach Corder, Drew Corder, Matt Corder, Cruz Corder, Darrell Corder and Joey Smith.  Honorary pallbearers are Scott Lemley, Dell Lemley, Lewis Jones and Preston Huggins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Hospital in Memphis, TN in honor of Richard.

The family wishes to offer a special word of thanks to the staff of Vital Caring hospice and his caregivers, Jo Ann Hill, Betty Harrison and Sheila Walker.
