Rev. Glenn Ervin Seefeld

Reverend Glenn Seefeld of Greenwood, Mississippi, passed away on the morning of Friday, June 20th, 2025, after many peaceful days at home with his family. He was serving as pastor of Ruleville United Methodist Church and Drew United Methodist Church at the time of his passing. He is survived by his sister, Millie Florio, of Willis, TX, daughter, Ashley Lemley (Dell) of Greenwood, his bonus daughter, Amy Burrow (Wade) of Byhalia, and his son, Walt Seefeld of Collierville, TN, and a special family friend, Sue Teal, of Collierville.

Known to his family as Gigi (gee-gee), he is also survived by two granddaughters, Kaylee Lemley of Oxford and Payden Eguires (Mo) of Starkville, and three great grandchildren, Physher Eguires, Palmyr-Kate Eguires, and Ali Glenn Seefeld of Starkville. He leaves many nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Walter Herman Seefeld, Jr., and his beloved wife, Winna Seefeld.

Glenn and Winna lived in and around Greenwood since moving here in 2001. He was the chaplain at Post 29 of the American Legion for nearly twenty years. For twelve of those years, he served as pastor of First United Methodist Church.

A native of Laurel, Mississippi, Glenn attended George S. Gardiner High School and went on to Mississippi State University. Although he started in Electrical Engineering, he got his Bachelor's degree in Forestry. His time at Mississippi State was divided by his two years of service in the US Army.

In 1965, mere months after marrying his high school sweetheart, Glenn was drafted in one of the early draft acts that included married men. After Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, he deployed to Vietnam late in 1966. He served in the 2nd of the 19th Artillery in the First Air Cavalry Division in III Core.

During his training, Glenn and Winna decided to start a family. When he returned from Vietnam in December of 1967, he met his son, Walt, for the first time. That is when Glenn took his young family to Starkville again to finish his degree, this time in Forestry.

Glenn enjoyed the outdoors during his twelve year career in the timber industry in south Louisiana and south Mississippi. During this time, he and Winna decided to grow their family. Ashley was born in 1976 in Laurel, Mississippi. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Rome, Georgia, so that Glenn could attend graduate school at Emory University. He was answering a long-felt call to enter the ministry. 

Glenn was ordained a United Methodist Minister in 1983 and returned to his home state. He started his ministry by founding a new church in Long Beach, Mississippi. In the next forty-two years, he served nine churches around the state of Mississippi, leaving people he held dear at every one. He married many couples, performed funerals, and held hands of those who were sick or dying. Mostly, though, throughout Glenn’s life from the earliest days until the last, he was a good friend. He leaves behind friends who felt the impact of the driving force of his life, the reason he always put love first:

 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

Funeral Services are 11 A.M. Wednesday, June25 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home With Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth and Rev. Brad Hodges officiating.  Interment is 2 P.M. at the North MS Veterans Cemetery in Kilmichael.  Visitation is from 9-11 prior to the service.
