Regina Ellington, 84, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at her home in McCarley with her family by her side. Services are 11 A.M. Thursday, June 20, with Rev. Dustin Long and Bro. Ken Salley officiating at the Carrolton Baptist Church in Carrolton, MS. Visitation is from 10-11 prior to the service at the church. Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery.
Regina was born in Hoxie, Arkansas to Johnnie and Clara Belle Baird. She graduated from high school in Senath, Missouri. While in high school, she met the love of her life, David Ellington. They married December 24, 1958, and had three daughters shortly thereafter. Regina spent time raising her girls when they were young. Later, she worked for Goldsmiths and Dillard’s Department Stores earning many awards for reaching sales goals. She and her husband, David, moved to the MS Delta in 1993 where they farmed Racetrack Plantation outside of Greenwood. From that point on, Regina was a homemaker and filled the role as a “farmer’s wife”. In the late 1990s, David moved his farming operation to Roundaway, MS near Clarksdale. They retired and moved to McCarley in 2011.
After moving to McCarley, Regina became a member of Carrollton Baptist Church. There she was a part of the choir, active on numerous committees, especially the grief share program and Vacation Bible School. She loved to crochet hats and blankets for the newborns at UMMC in Grenada and Greenwood Leflore Hospital. She loved fishing, reading but mostly spending time with family and friends. She also volunteered for the Museum of the MS Delta in Greenwood, Operation Christmas Child, Mission Hope and the annual Carrollton Pilgrimage.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David Ellington, an infant daughter, Annette Joyce Ellington, and a grandson Steven Loftin. She is survived by her two daughters, Mitzi Salley (Ken) of McCarley, Sherri Williams (Larry) of Monette, AR, a granddaughter, Heather Williams Sledge (Will) of Cleveland, and two great grandchildren, Parker Wilson Sledge and Nevin Claire Sledge both of Cleveland. Regina is also survived by many other relatives, cousins, and dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Peter Salley, Snookie Lee, Gil Ray, James Cain, Will Sledge and Howard Burns. Honorary pallbearers are Parker Sledge and the deacons of Carrollton Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Adoration Hospice. Their kindness, care, and dedication will always be remembered.
Memorials may be made to Carrollton Baptist Church, The Museum of the MS Delta or the charity of donor’s choice.
