William Ray Vail, 87, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at Winona Manor in Winona, MS. Graveside services are 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 4 at Itta Bena Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Wheat officiating. Visitation is from noon until 2 P.M. Wednesday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home prior to the service.
Ray was born in Leflore County to Homer George and Alma Mae Vail, grew up there and had been a longtime resident. He had resided for 17 years in California before moving back to Mississippi Delta. They had more recently moved to Acona in the past year and a half. Ray farmed, owned a trucking business and was retired from agricultural sales with Shaklee. He enjoyed camping, and hunting deer and elk.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Nell Chrismond. Ray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Hurst Vail, a daughter, Dorie Gueho (Kenneth) of New Orleans, LA; a son, Tim Vail of Acona; a brother James “Mookey” Vail of Schlater; two grandchildren, Brad Vail (Maegan Hannan) of Weeki Wachee, FL, Kristi Nix (Kendall) of Greenwood; and one great grandchild, Allie Nix of Greenwood, MS.
Pallbearers are Jarrod Ives, Colby Chrismond, Hunter Richardson, Gavin Young, Bubba Chrismond, and Robert Bennett.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Mason, Mark Raby, Tim Horn, Bobby Maxey, J.D. Brasel, and Cliff Chrismond
