Quinton Bordeaux Perry, 96, died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Services are at 2 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Greenwood
Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Seefeld officiating. Internment will follow in the Odd Fellows Mausoleum with military honors provided by American Legion Post #29. Visitation is prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 PM.
Mr. Perry was born in Cochran, Georgia, on December 18, 1927, to Ruth Bordeaux Perry and Green Byrd Perry. He attended Cochran High School, Middle Georgia College, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and the University of Florida, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and graduated with high honors and a degree in Agricultural Economics and Marketing. Before enrolling at the University of Florida, Quinton joined the U.S. Navy in January 1946. He served on the USS South Dakota, USS Oregon City, USS North Carolina, and the USS Rochester. He was a signalman, Seaman First Class. On January 1, 1947, he received a Navy WWII Victory Medal and American Area Campaign Medal and was discharged on November 17, 1947.
He worked for the Cotton Producers Association in Atlanta, GA, where he was assistant to the Head of the Cotton Department from 1950 to 1962. He married Mary Sandra Turner on June 14, 1958, and they were married for 59 years at her death on February 20, 2017. In 1962, they moved to Greenwood, MS, where he was a VP and Sales Manager in the Division of Sales and Market Development for Staple Cotton Cooperative Association. He handled both domestic and foreign sales and did extensive worldwide traveling. He joined Dunavant Enterprises, headquartered in Memphis, TN, in 1974 and retired in 1997. Quinton was a stockholder and VP in charge of the Delta Cotton Buying Operation. He had a seat on the Greenwood Cotton Exchange and served as Director, Vice President, and President, and was on the 75 th Anniversary Planning Committee.
A member of the Greenwood Country Club, he served as Director, Vice President, and President. During his tenure, the irrigation system was installed on the golf course. He was a member of the Men’s Golf Association, served as Secretary, and was on the grounds committee. He handmade the first tee markers that were used at the club. He personally worked on the grounds, pruning and planting shrubbery and trees, especially the crepe myrtles, and was recognized for this in 2015. In 2017, a sign depicting Crepe Myrtle Drive in honor of Quinton and Sandra Perry was installed inside the entrance of the club. He was an avid golfer and had three holes in one.
He was a Vice Chairman of the Greenwood Area, Tallaha District, Boy Scouts of America. Quinton was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as usher, on the landscape committee, and on the endowment committee. His greatest love was his family and he was affectionately known as Q-Daddy to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sandra Turner Perry; his son, Ron Wesley Perry; his parents, Ruth Bordeaux Perry and Green Byrd Perry; sisters, Merle Elrod, Neail Porter, Marciene Westberry, and Shirley Perry White; and brother, Green Byrd Perry, Jr.
Survivors include his son, Quinton Perry II (Mindy), Ridgeland, MS; his grandchildren, Ann Turner James (Tim) of Mobile, AL, Wes Perry (Alex) of Oxford, MS, and Catherine Perry of Ridgeland, MS; his great-grandchildren, Tim James, III, and Forrest James of Mobile, AL, Fisher Perry, and Waverly Perry, of Oxford, MS; sister-in-law, Marion (Butch) Harrison of Atlanta, GA; brothers-in-law, Sam Turner of Richmond, VA, and Marc Turner of Atlanta, GA, and many much- loved nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Jan Verhage, Rob Spiller, Charles Bowman, Danny Hardin, Tom Hardin, Danny Whitehead, and Jimmy Henderson.
