Pullen Avant

Richard Pullen Avant, 15, left this life much too early Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital.  Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 13 at North Greenwood Baptist Church with interment to follow in Odd Fellows East Cemetery.  Dr. Jim Phillips and Rev. Dustin Long will officiate.  Visitation is Friday evening from 5-8 P.M. at the church. 

Born in the Grenada hospital, Pullen spent his young life in Greenwood. He had just completed the 8th grade at Pillow Academy where he was loved by his schoolmates and had recently been voted as the class favorite.  Pullen excelled as an athlete at Pillow where he played basketball, football and baseball on the Jr. High teams.  He was recently awarded the coveted “Mustang Award” for his outstanding efforts in basketball.  He also enjoyed playing travel baseball and was a member of the SBG Sox out of Jackson, MS.  He was also very active at North Greenwood Baptist Church.  He enjoyed all outdoor activities like hunting and fishing just to name a few. 

He is survived by his parents; Matt and Stephanie Avant, a sister; Kennedy Avant, his paternal grandparents; Richard and Becky Avant, maternal grandparents; Thomas and Brenda Tanksley, two very special great aunts whom he considered grandparents; Judy Burgoon and Delores Moore, all of Greenwood. Aunts and Uncles; Wendy Hayes of Greenwood, Paige McClellan (Ben) of Memphis, and Ben Avant (Anna) of Memphis, and cousins; Joyner Hayes, Zoe Finney, Samantha Finney, Finch Avant, Louis Avant and numerous other extended family members whom he loved. 

Pallbearers will be Robbie Mattox, Chris Downs, Buck Rideout, Lee Houston, Brett Jones, Shelby Hayes, Chad Hankins and Tim Burton. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Jr. High football, baseball and basketball teams.
