Pauline "Polly" Moore Strain, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. Funeral service, officiated by Glen Barlow and Larry Littlejohn, will be at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Itta Bena Cemetery.
Polly was born in Greenwood to Walter Andrew and Laura Clark Moore of Morgan City and was a lifelong resident of Leflore County. Polly taught music for a brief period of time at Pillow Academy, but the majority of her years were spent as a farm wife. She played the piano for the Morgan City and Itta Bena Presbyterian Churches. She was a member of Matinee Musicale and a charter member of Delta Cotton Wives.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Derwood, and a daughter, Hart Howard. She is survived by a daughter, Dot Miller (Mark) of Greenwood; a son, Dink Strain (Melanie) of Itta Bena; seven grandchildren, Drew Howard (Katherine) of Inverness, Edi McIlwain of Olive Branch, Oliver Williams (Julia) of Mountain Brook, AL, Garner Williams (Martha) of Memphis, TN, Ann Kathleen Strain of Ypsilanti, MI, Emmie Daugherty (Barrett) and Arie Strain of Greenwood, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Barrett Daugherty, Drew Howard, Graham Howard, Strain Howard, Bailey Patridge, Stewart Patridge, Garner Williams, and Oliver Williams.
