Oscar Daves, Jr. Obituary

Oscar Daves, Jr. 83, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Vaiden Community and Living Center in Vaiden.  Graveside services are 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Blackhawk Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev.  Rick Shepherd officiating.  Visitation is from 11 A.M. to 12 noon at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home prior to the service.

Oscar was born in Lexington, MS to Oscar and Connie Mae Tindoll Daves.  He grew up in Holmes County, MS and later moved to Greenwood.  He was a self-employed salesman. Oscar was a Godly man of deep faith who always put others before himself. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others, and would drop everything to be there in a time of need. Many people around Greenwood knew him, and he definitely made many friends over the years. He undoubtedly had a big personality, and everyone who encountered him knew it. To know him was to love him, and all of his many quirks. Some of his favorite things to do were to shop around Greenwood, specifically Marketplace, and go to the Bank of Commerce each day. If you know Oscar, you know that he needed to go to the Bank of Commerce before it closed each day to check his balance. Although he did not want to show it, he loved all of the women at the bank just as much as they loved him.

Even though he did love his money, and definitely made it known, his greatest joy in life was his family. He would do anything for his children and grandchildren, and I mean anything. No matter how big or small the request he was always there for each and everyone of us. He radiated joy, love, and kindness no matter how he was feeling inside. One of his favorite things to say to us was, "Always be sweet, kind, and gentle." That sums up who he truly was as a person from the beginning of his life to the very end. Each and every conversation, life story, and joke truly made an impact on our lives. The memory of his love, quirkiness, and kindness will live on forever through his family and friends who love him dearly.

Oscar is preceded in death by his parents and his  sister, Constance Mae Wiltshire and Jewell Faye Daves. He is survived by two daughters, Conchetta Cade of Greenwood, Stephanie Biggers (David) of Winona; grandchildren, Shelby McKenzie (Brad) of Kingsport, TN, Kaylyn Cade (Nico Ramirez) of Florence, AL, Sarah Biggers (Trace Harlow) of Duck Hill, Justin Biggers of Winona; great grandchildren, River and Lorelai McKenzie and Ezra Ramirez; and another great-daughter due in February.

The family would like to thank, Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital, the staff and residents of Vaiden community living center, and Starlett of Mississippi Baptist Hospice.

Memorials may be made to God’s House of Hope ministries, Blackhawk Baptist Church Cemetery or the charity of donor’s choice.
