Opal Weir Johnson, 92, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Indywood Glen personal care home in Greenwood. Funeral services are 10 A.M. Saturday, February 22 at First Presbyterian Church with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Dr. Rusty Douglas will officiate. Visitation is from 9-10 Saturday morning in the church parlor.
Born in Indiana, Mrs. Johnson moved to Mississippi at an early age and had been a lifelong resident. She received her degree from MSCW and taught Life Science at Greenwood High School for a number of years prior to becoming a homemaker so she could stay home with her two sons. Opal was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle and was also the church Secretary for a number of years. She was a former member of the Greenwood Garden Club and a life member of the Junior Auxiliary. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William F. Johnson, Sr. and a son, William F. Johnson, Jr.
She is survived by her son; Don Johnson and his wife Lisa and three grandchildren; Emma Johnson, William Johnson and Bryan Johnson all of Flower Mound, TX.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Henry Flautt, Bill Shephard, Allen Holiman, John Pittman, John King and Buddy Morgan.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Indywood Glen for their wonderful and loving care of Opal for the past 12 years.
