Mona Ree Taylor, 86, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Golden Age Nursing Home. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Saturday, Sept 7 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Rome Cemetery. Rev. Brady Canright will officiate. Visitation is from 9-11 Saturday prior to the service.
Mona Ree was born in Donna, TX to Franklin and Ann Canode. She was raised in Sunflower County, graduated from Drew High School and received her B.A. degree from Millsaps Collegein 1953.
Shortly after graduation she married Billy Taylor and moved to Starkville where taught in the West Point School system. In 1957 they moved Greenwood where she taught at the Presbyterian Day School and retired from the Leflore County School System.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Greenwood, the Home Demonstration Club, Matinee Musicale and the Greenwood Community Band. She was also the local “Tupperware Lady.”
She is survived by her husband, Billy, daughters; Olivia Marx (Richard) of Greenville, NC, Tanya Speer (Michael) of Oklahoma City, OK, sons; Michael Taylor (Jean) of Pawnee Il, Tim Taylor of Greenwood. Sisters; Thelma Thomas (Fisher) of Largo, FL, Joyce White (Charles) of Lexington, TN, brother Frank Canode, Jr. ( Mary) of Rogers, AR and four grandchildren; Neal Marx (Kelsey) of Goldsboro, NC, Hannah Taylor of Baltimore, MD, Parker Speer of Oklahoma City, OK and Hayden Speer of Oklahoma City, OK.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Knox, Chris Wilson, Thomas McCullum, Dale Morgan, Ed Blackstone and Robbie Wilson
