Mavis Adella “Dell” Heath, 101, passed away, Wednesday,,October 5, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services are 11 A.M. Friday, October 7, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Hal Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 9-11 A.M. Friday morning at the funeral home.
Dell was born in Merigold, MS to M. E. and Ora Myers Sims and raised in the Morgan City area. She married Master Sgt. James E. Heath July 5, 1943 and lived with her parents in Phillipston while her husband served in the Army during World War II. After his return they made their home in Greenwood where they raised their family. She was previously a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She later joined North Greenwood Baptist Church. She loved to garden, was an avid reader and a great seamstress making clothes including her daughter’s wedding gowns. She played numerous musical instruments with her siblings in a band.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her husband James E. Heath. Survivors include two daughters, Mavis Cosper and Connie Sebro (Pat); two sons, James F. Heath and Roy W. Heath (Betty) all of Greenwood; three grandchildren, David Cosper of Greenwood, Timothy Heath (Barbie) of Riverside CA and Leslie Butts (Joey)of Greenwood; three great grandchildren; Tyler Tankesly, Aliyah Tankesly both of Greenwood, Elena Heath of Riverside, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Sims, Teddy Sims, Tyler Tankesly, Guy Richardson, Joey Butts, Justin (JP) Phillips, Jesus Reyes and David Jenkins. Dr. Charles Nause is an honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
