Mary Louise Browning, 97, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Bedford Alzheimer’s Care Center in Hattiesburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Butler officiating. Visitation will begin an hour earlier. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood.
Ms. Browning was born in Greenwood on Oct. 17, 1927. A 1945 graduate of Greenwood High School, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and worked in Greenwood Public Schools, at Pillow Academy and for the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. She attended First United Methodist Church and, later, St. John’s Methodist Church in Greenwood. Ms. Browning moved to the Hattiesburg area in 2021.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Page Browning of Greenwood; one son, William Taylor Browning (T.J.) of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren, William Taylor Browning Jr. (Joy) of Ellisville, Ann Manning (Josh) of Ellisville, Daguerre Henry (Gareth) of Brandon and Dana Blaire McMorris (John Grady) of Buford, Georgia; and ten great-grandchildren, Avery, Archer and Amilia Manning, all of Ellisville, Luca Browning of Ellisville, Shelbi Claire and Garrett Moore, both of Brandon, Slate and Piper Rayne Henry, both of Brandon, and Caroline and John Luke McMorris, both of Buford, Georgia.
Ms. Browning was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. Galey Sr. and Esther Terry Galey; her brother, W.E. Galey Jr.; her son, Thomas Beryl Browning III; and her grandson, Jason Patrick Browning.
