Mary Juaneze (Peden) Counts

Mary Juaneze Peden Counts, 85 passed away Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.  Funeral services are 3 P.M. Friday, August 9 at the Greenwood Church of God with Pastor James McElroy and Pastor Michael Mooneyham officiating.  Interment is in McNutt cemetery.  Visitation is from 1:30 until service time at the church.

Juaneze was born in Leflore County to John Earnest and Mary Ellie Nokes Peden. She was a lifelong resident of Leflore County spending the majority of her years in Schlater.  She was a labor and delivery nurse at Greenwood Leflore Hospital for 21 years.  She had the privilege of assisting with the delivery of all of her grandchildren.  Juaneze was a faithful member of the Church of God, she loved spending time with her family.

Juaneze is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Curtis Counts, her brothers, John Thomas Peden, Travis Peden, Wayne Peden and a grandchild Aaron Counts Carlisle.  She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Counts (Vicky) of Schlater, Thomas Counts (Vellie) of Carrollton; a daughter, Vickie Carlisle (Keith) of Carrollton; 8 grandchildren, Melissa Rhodes (Phillip) of Schlater, Lindsay Brown (Matthew) of Schlater, Matt Counts (Jayme) of Philipp, Jason Counts (Melanie) of Caledonia, Jared Counts (Meagan) of Itta Bena, Tyler Counts (Pebbles) of Glukstadt, Wesley Carlisle (Janie Ann) of Leland, Corey Brook Carlisle of Carrollton; 17 great- grandchildren, Etta Grace Counts, Mary Hazel Counts, James Cecil Counts, Hallie Rhodes, Hayden Rhodes, Jake Brown, Ally Brown, Brantley Counts, Holden Counts, Chandler Counts, Cohen Counts, Waverly Counts, Swayze Counts, Baker Counts, Brick Counts, Natalie Brooke Wilburn and Amelia Ann Carlisle.

Pallbearers will be Jason Counts, Jared Counts, Tyler Counts, Wesley Carlisle, Matt Counts and Matthew Brown.  Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Greenwood Church of God or the charity of donor’s choice.
