Wednesday morning, December 7th, 2022, Mary Ann Watkins Floyd of McCarley went home to be with her savior Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was 81 years of age.
Mary Ann was the ninth surviving child born to Gordie A. “Bunk” Watkins and Evelyn Trice Watkins on June 12th, 1941, in Baird MS. She spent her early life on the farm and attended school in Leflore County before moving to Greenwood and attending Greenwood High School.
Most of Ann’s adult life was spent in Greenwood MS. She married Arthur Floyd in November 1957, and they celebrated over 64 years of marriage prior to his passing in October. Ann retired in 2001 after a long career at South Central Bell and AT&T in Greenwood, beginning in 1969 as an operator and ending in customer service, with many other areas of the company in between. In retirement she was church secretary at St. John’s United Methodist church in Greenwood for many years and worked at the Vaiden MS public library for a time. She was a current member of Poplar Springs Baptist church in Carrollton,
Her favorite pastimes were centered around her service to the church and their youth groups. She was a member at Immanuel Baptist, Christ Baptist, and Calvary Baptist in Greenwood before moving to McCarley in 2005 and joining Poplar Springs. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and card games but spent the bulk of her time dedicated to helping raise her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her father and mother, three sisters and four brothers, her husband Arthur A. Floyd, and their son John Wesley Floyd. Her survivors include sisters Irene Blount and Lillian Simons, sons David W. (Janice) Floyd, Dr. Jeffrey A. (Temple) Floyd, grandchildren Emily F. (Matt) Simpson, Jamie F. (Ethan) Dugar, Tyler (Victoria) Floyd, Hunter (Sydney) Floyd, Parker (Kinley) Floyd, Shane Floyd and Adrianne F. (Phillip) Peacock, and 13 great grandchildren.
Greenwood Delta Funeral Home of Greenwood is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday December 10th at 9 a.m. with service following at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tyler Floyd, Shane Floyd, Hunter Floyd, Parker Floyd, Ethan Dugar, and Greg Watkins. Thanks to the wonderful caring staff at Legacy Hospice.
