Marvin Eugene Floyd, AKA Michael Eugene Strickland, 83, passed away December 26, 2023, at his home in Anderson, South Carolina. Graveside services are 10 A.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael with military honors provided by American Legion Post 29.

Marvin (Michael) was born and raised in Leflore County, MS. He was the fourth child of Jimmy and Flonnie Floyd.  He served in the US Army from 1957-1964 where he served in the 18th Airborne Corps as part of the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions.  He was stationed at Fort Bragg and Fort Campbell.  He loved the Screaming Eagles and embodied the whole jumping out of “good airplanes”.  He enjoyed jumping from the C130s the most.

 After the service he became involved in the paint contracting profession and eventually opened his own professional paint contracting company.  He painted commercially throughout much of the southeastern United States.  He most notably held the contract for The Cracker Barrell Corporation. 

He was a “gypsy” at heart and loved to travel.  He had lived in MS, Florida, Tennessee, Utah, and South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step- daughter, Stephanie Sharples and his first wife, Barbara Miller Strickland whom he was married to from 1973-1998.

He is survived by his wife Catherine Markham Strickland; five daughters, Cheryl Cessna of Daytona, FL, Connie King (J.R.) of Holly Hill, FL, Cathy Daugherty of PA, Cindy Sanders (Jeff) of Ohio, Shalynne Strickland of Anderson, SC; two sons, Daryl Strickland (Shelley) of Daytona, FL, Kiwan Strickland of Anderson, SC; two step daughters, Christina Taylor of Bountiful, UT, Allison LaShorne (Casey) of Kingman, AZ; a brother, Pete Floyd (Pamela) of Greenwood; fourteen grandchildren, Tameka, Brandon, Christopher, Barbara, Courtney, Michael, Jennifer, Samantha Jeffery, Kassy, Austin, Aricka, Zay’ah, Jhonen, Liberty and 11 great grandchildren.
