Martha Elizabeth (Kimbrough) Barnwell

Martha Kimbrough Barnwell went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 3, 2021. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson at 10:00 A.M. in the Hutton Chapel.  Visitation will be held in the Greeting Courtyard adjacent to the chapel beginning at 9:00 A.M. A visitation will also be held in Greenwood, Mississippi that afternoon from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M. at the Alluvian in the Terrace Room.

Martha Barnwell was born on May 9, 1935, in Greenwood, to Allan McCaskill Kimbrough and Ida Lena Hearn Kimbrough. She attended the College of Mary Baldwin in Virginia and the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She spent a wonderful summer studying in Mexico before finishing her degree in English and Journalism at Mississippi College for Women.

After graduating from MSCW, she married Samuel Davis Barnwell.  They raised their family in Jackson, where Martha was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church for over forty years. She was also an active member of the D.A.R. and the Junior League of Jackson.

Martha enjoyed playing tennis at River Hills Club. Her rich friendships in Jackson were treasured even after moving to Austin, Texas, and then Nashville, Tennessee, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Martha was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers, Hearn Kimbrough and Mack Kimbrough; her sister, Helen Kimbrough Miller; and husband, Sam Barnwell.

She is survived by her daughters, Helen Barnwell Hall (Greg) of Austin, Texas; Frances Barnwell Woodall (Britt) of Nashville, Tennessee; and her son Allan Kimbrough Barnwell (Rachel) of Austin, Texas; by her grandchildren: Elizabeth Jones (Mike), William Ball (Nicole), Kathryn Ball, Britton Woodall, Katherine Grace Woodall Morgan (Andrew), Helen Barnwell, Sam Barnwell, and Joey Barnwell; and by six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
