Marguett "Sue" Tanksley Joiner, 91, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Riverview Nursing Home in Greenwood. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 11 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ken Salley will officiate. Visitation will be 9-11 A.M. Tuesday prior to the funeral.
Marguett was born in Indianola to Elmer Brooks and Leona Cotton Tanksley on August 26, 1929. And was raised in Greenwood. She and her husband owned and operated Schlater Grocery for over 20 years prior to selling and retiring in 1985. She was a member of Christ Baptist Church. Mrs. Joiner enjoyed working in her yard and was well known for her Caramel Cakes. She also loved helping others in times of need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Earl Joiner a daughter Gloria Adams, and a brother, Kenny Tanksley. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Carpenter of Greenwood; a son, Robert Joiner (Sandra) of Itta Bena; two sisters, Eula Alderman (Marvin) and Jane Swider; two brothers, M. L. Tanksley and Thomas Tanksley (Brenda) all of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Rob Joiner (Amber) of Greenwood, Glenn “Goonie” Carpenter (Belinda) of Greenwood, John Carpenter (Veronica) of Olive Branch, Bubba Carpenter (Jimma) of Tupelo, Peyton Walker (Tim) of Hernando and Page McKelvy (Kevin) of Conway, AR, 12 great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews
Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Rob Joiner, Glenn “Goonie” Carpenter, Jr., Bubba Carpenter, John Carpenter, Colby Carpenter, and Jake Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers are William Glenn Carpenter, Sr., Joyner Hayes and Jamie Neilson
Memorials May be made to St. Jude Children’s research hospital, Christ Baptist Church or the charity of donor’s choice.
