Margaret Montgomery Obituary

Margaret Smith Montgomery age 83 of Greenwood, MS passed away Saturday August 7, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

A visitation for Margaret will be held Monday, August 9, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton, MS. Reverend Larry Littlejohn & Glen Barlow will officiate the services.

Margaret was born October 13, 1937 to Martin and Pauline Henderson Smith in Leflore County, Mississippi. They moved to Carroll County and she graduated J Z George High School as Valedictorian. She married Charles J. Montgomery August 14, 1955.  She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the family farm. She was a past president of the parents association at Pillow Academy. Margaret also served in various offices of the Covenant Presbyterian Women in the Church. She was a member of the Morgan City Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Pauline Smith & her sister, Alice Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles J. Montgomery, her daughter Ellen Hey (David) of Greenwood, MS; her two Sons Andrew T. Montgomery (Nancye) of Natchez, MS; Charles J. Montgomery, Jr. of Greenwood, MS; Sister, Jo Ann Beasley of Kansas City, KS; brother Wesley Smith (Weecie) of Spring TX; Sister, Sarah Brown (Sammy) of Mantee, MS; sister, Paula Smith of Ridgeland.

7 grandchildren David Hey, Jr (Summer) of Greenwood, MS, Joseph Hey of Bozman, MT, Elizabeth Hey of Greenwood, MS, Andrew Montgomery (Anna) of Bangkok, Thailand, Julieanna Panantang (Uthai) of Bangkok, Thailand, Michelle Hodges (Channing) of Greenwood, MS, C J Montgomery (Doshie) of Greenwood, MS and 13 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Hey, Jr., Channing Hodges, C J Montgomery, Billy Montgomery, Andrew Montgomery, Joseph Hey, Neal Brown, and Wally Montgomery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Waggoner, Wayne Walker, and Sammy Brown.

Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Hines and staff, Legacy Hospice and Right at Home for their care.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
