Mamie Sudduth Carpenter, 91, passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2024, at Country Meadow Personal Care Home with her daughters by her side. Funeral services are 2 P.M. Saturday, November 30 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Coila cemetery. Visitation is from noon – 2 P.M prior to the service.
Mamie was born in Carroll County to Oat and Lemmi Smith Sudduth. She grew up there and graduated from J. Z. George High School in Carrollton. She married the love of her life, Henry Grady Carpenter on September 17, 1955 and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2020. She was previously a member of Enon Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School but she later joined First United Methodist Church in Greenwood where she was a longtime member. Mamie enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and vegetables and loved cooking. Desserts were her specialty. She was famous for her coconut and caramel cakes. She was a devoted grandmother who loved her grandchildren dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Grady.
Mamie is survived by three daughters, Betty C. Bazzell (Mark) of Canton, GA, Rebecca C. Edwards (Danny) of Greenwood, Jo Ann Carpenter of Duluth, GA; Eight Grandchildren, Jennifer Iott (Derek), Jonathan Jones (Dominque Reyes), Brad Edwards (Elizabeth), Reed Edwards, Brett Shanley (Katie), Bryan Shanley (Nicole), Trevor Bazzell, Jenna Bazzell; four great grandchildren, Preston Iott, Houston Henry Iott, Katelyn Hill, Wyatt Shanley and a sister-in-law,Dorothy Carpenter of Oxford.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jonathan Jones, Brad Edwards, Reed Edwards, Brett Shanley, Bryan Shanley, and Mark Bazzell. Danny Edwards will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family wished to offer a special word of thanks to the staff of Country Meadow Personal Care Home and the staff of Adoration Hospice.
