Louise Sanford Gilbert

Louise Sanford Gilbert, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at her home in Greenwood surrounded by her family.  Funeral services are 2 P.M. Sunday, July 26 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Evergreen cemetery.  Roger Jones will officiate the service.  Visitation is from 1-2 P.M. prior to the service.

Louise was born and raised in Lexington, MS to Albert and Ida Mae Sanford and moved to Greenwood after marrying her husband John, August 4, 1961. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Lexington but had more recently attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood. She worked for many years as a cotton classer for U.S.D.A. She loved to hunt and fish but mostly loved cooking, especially for her family and friends.  She loved camping at Enid lake with friends that became more like family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Maggie Lee Self, Linda Bowlin, a brother, Jim Sanford and two grandchildren, Christopher Murphy and Ashley Gomes.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Gilbert, two daughters, Margaret Campbell (Goober), Barbara Anne Gilbert; a son, Johnny Gilbert (Sheila) all of Greenwood; grandchildren, J. W. Campbell (Kalen), Harley Gilbert, Madalyn Tedford, Jarrod Golden (Angela), Rayna Thornton, Ashton Thornton; Great-Grandchildren, Camden Murphy, Johnathan Gilbert, Collins Campbell, Mila Hester, Marley Gilbert, Allison Jefcoat, Leighton Golden: a Sister, Brenda Ledbetter of Lexington; Brother, Sonny Sanford of Saltillo; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jones of New Iberia, LA.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Gilbert, Goober Campbell,  J. W. Campbell, Jacob Bowlin, Harley Gilbert, Terry Sanford, and Andy Ledbetter.  Honorary pallbearers are Timmy Slaton, Randy Henderson, Tracy Long and Dr. Kenneth Hines.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of donor’s choice.
