John Ira Williams, 73, passed away Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022 at The University of MS Medical Center in Grenada. Services are 11 A.M. Friday Sept 9 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 29. Visitation is from 10-11 A.M. Friday prior to the service.
John was born and raised in Greenwood, graduated from Greenwood High School and served in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked for a number of years in the oil fields around Paducah, TX and later retired from Upchurch plumbing as an HVAC technician. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed Nascar auto racing.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Ira B. and Ruth O’Neal Williams and a brother, Terry Wayne Williams. He is survived by a daughter, Carla Nugent of Pottsboro, TX; a son John Ira “Buckie” Williams, Jr (Alicia) of Kyle, TX; two sisters, Jennifer Kelly (Larry) of Greenwood, Sherry Williams of Avalon; three Grandchildren, Tyler H. Williams, Mikhala Carson and Emily Nugent and a great grandson, Ayden Mikhael Carson.
Pallbearers will be his son John Ira “Buckie” Williams, Jr. and hic nephews and cousins, Anthony Gammill, Mitch Williams, Larry Wayne Kelly, John Mark Riley, Gage Gammill, Grayson Gammill, Mitchell Morris, and Zach Fancher
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #29 of Greenwood or the charity of donor’s choice.
