James Ross Montgomery

James Ross Montgomery, 93, passed away peacefully, April 19, 2025, at Indywood Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood, MS.  Services are 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.  Rev. Collin Montgomery will officiate.

Ross was born July 17, 1931, in Carroll County near Carrollton.  He graduated from J. Z. George High School in Carrollton in 1953, and Sunflower Junior College (MS Delta Community College) in Moorhead in 1955.  Afterward he attended Draughn’s Business School in Memphis, TN.  After farming with his father, Ross ran several milk delivery routes to Giant Food stores in Greenwood and later was a Jackson cookie salesman.  Ross was a longtime resident of Greenwood and a member of First Baptist Church.

Ross loved to cook, barbecue, hunt, and fish.  He enjoyed easy listening music, gospel music, reading his Kindle and the Bible.  He spent much of his later years watching sports on television, especially football, basketball, baseball and wrestling, as well as wood working, and planting angel trumpets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harold Montgomery and Nora Irene McDaniel Montgomery; his sisters, Sarah Montgomery, Ann Montgomery Crowley, Rachel Poe Mixon, and Faye Montgomery Blanchard.

Ross is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Hudson Montgomery, and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
