Hilda Todd Brackin

Hilda Todd Brackin, 82, passed away peacefully in her home in Greenwood, Mississippi, on Monday, January 15, 2024. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Sunday, January 21 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Brackin officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 22 in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek, Alabama.

Hilda was born in 1941 to Marvin H. and Ellie Marie Terry Todd in Courtland, Alabama. She   graduated from Hazlewood High School in Town Creek and attended the University of North Alabama in Florence. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.

 Following high school, Hilda worked for Western Electric on Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, and later worked in the registrar’s office at Samford Hall of Auburn University. In 1974, she moved to Greenwood with her family and taught third grade at Bankston Elementary School for many years.  She was instrumental in developing the school’s garden habitat, and she was also an active member of North Greenwood Baptist Church.

Hilda’s favorite hobby was bird watching, and her favorite bird was the Carolina Wren. She kept a daily log of all the different varieties of birds that visited her feeders, and she participated annually in the Great Backyard Bird Count. She also loved rocks and enjoyed any activity that involved her children and grandchildren, whether it was cheerleading, tennis, band, school or the holidays. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was a loyal Auburn sports fan. Above all, she loved to laugh.

Hilda is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marcella Todd Seckinger. She is survived by a daughter, Terri McDaniel (Michael) of Greenwood; a son, John Brackin of Hoover, Alabama; three grandchildren, Patrick McDaniel, Brady McDaniel, both of Jackson, Mississippi, and Avery McDaniel of Greenwood; and her former husband, Paul Brackin of Florence.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Brackin, Freddie Brackin, McClane Bryant, Mark Gill, Brady McDaniel, Patrick McDaniel, Michael McDaniel, and Brandon Todd.
