Germaine Arnold Obituary

Germaine Elizabeth Hall Arnold, 96, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Indywood Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood.  Funeral Services are 2 P.M. Thursday, March 5 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery.  Dr. Rusty Douglas will officiate.  Visitation is from noon till service time Thursday.

Mrs. Arnold was born in Wildsville, LA, on September 2, 1923 to Horatio Bruce Hall and Marion Alice Darst Hall.  At the age of one, she and her family moved to Meridian, MS and later at the age of twelve, they moved to Greenwood where she remained for the remainder of her life, with the exception of a year during World War II.  She was educated in the Meridian and Greenwood Public schools.

Known as “Maine” to her family and close friends, she was first a homemaker with great interest and enthusiasm for her family.  Children, Grandchildren and great grandchildren took a large portion of her time and energy.

She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and later was a charter member of North Greenwood Baptist Church.  She served wherever needed, including teaching, serving as Director of the Junior Sunday School Department and was active in the Children’s choirs, WMU, LLL and many committees.  She was a Brownie Scout Leader, a school room mother for 13 years and a member of Early Families of Greenwood.

She was a past member of Altrusa, the Greenwood Country Club, YAH Dance Club, and secretary treasurer of Baff Printing and Arnold Associated, Inc. Mrs. Arnold made many friends throughout the community as the longtime owner and manager of Greenwood Printing Company, Inc.  Many of her customers became friends who considered her a caring confidant.

Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William E. “Bill” Arnold, a daughter, Billie Jean Arnold McShan and her parents. She is survived by one daughter; Dr. Ann Arnold Adams and her husband Jackie of Madison, five grandchildren; Leigh Anne Adams of Flowood, MS, Kevin Adams (Tammy) of Greenwood, MS, Allison M. Diffey (John) of Long Beach, MS, Stephanie M. Ouzts (Clark) of Greensboro, NC, and Ashley M. Daniel (Shannon) of College Grove, TN.  Twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandson, a brother; Gaines Hall (Sharon) of Kankakee, IL, a niece; Nita Arnold Simpson (James) of Union  City, TN and a nephew; Gaines Bruce Hall of Germany

Pallbearers will be Kevin Adams, Daniel Walker, Jr., Clark Ouzts, John Diffey, Shannon Daniels, and James Simpson.

The family wishes to offer a special thank you to her care givers, Glena H. Elam, Georgia Sweeney and Denice Campbell, the staff of Heart of Hospice and the staff of Indywood Glen.
