Genell (Mattox) Clayton

Genell Mattox Clayton, 77, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Tallahatchie General Extended Care Facility in Charleston.  Funeral services are 3 P.M. Saturday, June 14, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation is from 2-3 P.M. prior to the service.  Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate.

Genell was born in Corinth to Herman G. and Eula Killough Mattox.  She grew up in Corinth, Greenville, and Sardis.  She graduated from North Panola High School in Sardis and The University of Mississippi.  She spent her career with the MS Department of Human Services, retiring from the Child Support Division in Jackson.  After retirement she returned to Sardis where she enjoyed many years pursuing her hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, shopping and loving on her fur babies.

Genell is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William J. “Bill” Clayton. She is survived by a daughter, Brooke Anthony Savell (Shay); a son, Allen Anthony, II (Tina); two grandchildren; Meredith Anthony, Joseph Savell (Myla); and three brothers, Jerry L. Mattox (Malinda), David L. Mattox (Pam) and Ray Mattox (Gwen).
