Margaret Elise Tuten Geeslin, 82, passed away on Thursday, September 21, at Riverview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Sunday, September 24, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. The Reverend Collin Montgomery will officiate. Visitation is from 2 pm to 3 pm, prior to the service.
Elise was born on April 26, 1941, in Bristol, GA to the late Benjamin Franklin Tuten and the late Myrtle Ophelia Griffin Tuten. She graduated from Patterson High School in 1958. She then moved to Jacksonville, FL where she met her husband of 55 years, the late Jim Geeslin. Together, they enjoyed playing church league sports, fishing and traveling.
Prior to moving to Greenwood in 1995, she was a dedicated church member and was always willing to serve wherever needed. Elise was a member of First Baptist Church Greenwood where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and helped judge Bible Drills for many years. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. She also loved reading, baking, sewing, listening to music, and scalloping in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James H. (Jim) Geeslin; three sisters, Nela Winn, Sue Nell McDonald, and Shirley Jean Tuten; and three brothers, Luther Tuten, Benjamin Tuten, Jr., and Loran Tuten.
Elise is survived by her daughter, Jerri Geeslin of Greenwood; one sister, Cheryl Kelly of St. Augustine, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Dunn, James Johnson, Bob Craig, and Dwight Dunn.
Special thanks to Ms. Vonna Collins and Mrs. Monique Echols, the staff at Indywood Glen, and the staff at Riverview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
