Ed Jones Bledsoe passed away Tuesday evening, September 17, 2024, at his home in Shellmound. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, September 20 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Reverend Allan Bledsoe will officiate.
Ed was born in Memphis and was raised in Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High School and then attended Mississippi State University. He began his farming career in 1955 and continued to be actively involved until his health failed at the age of 90.
Ed was instrumental in the initiation of the Deer Management Program in Mississippi. This program was responsible for the proliferation of a quality deer herd in the state. He was a founding member of Montgomery Island Hunting Club in Rosedale and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Jones and Katharine Bledsoe Pond, and his wife, Sybil Herr Bledsoe. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Woodson of Schlater and Sybil Lucic (Ed) of Greenwood; two sons, Ernest Bledsoe (Jamie) of Shellmound and Ed Bledsoe, Jr. of Shellmound; a sister, Katharine Thomas of Hattiesburg; a brother, Timothy Thimmes (Janet) of Marion, UT; grandchildren, Julia Harris (Hayes) of Greenwood, Katie Dale (Daniel) of Glendora, Thomas Lucic (Patricia) of Greenwood, Allan Bledsoe (Jane Gray) of Prattville, AL, Lewis Buford V (Meredith) of Greenwood, and Andersen Lucic (Carley) of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Jane Kimmel Buford, Stella Buford, James Bledsoe, Sybil Harris, Emma Harris, David Bledsoe, Daniel Dale III, Annie Buford, Seth Bledsoe, Mac Harris, Maree Dale, Lucille Lucic, Lewis Buford VI, Lawrence Kate Lucic, Jackson Lucic, and Wyatt Lucic.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Lucic, Lewis Buford V, Andersen Lucic, Hayes Harris, Daniel Dale, and Brian Mitchell.
Memorials may be made to Pillow Academy, The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
