Dwight E. “Bird Dog” Wood, 78, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his home in Carroll County. Funeral services are 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 20 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Anthony Wood officiating. Interment is in Coila Cemetery. Visitation is from noon till service time Wednesday.
Mr. Wood was born to Alvie Edward and Hattie Jones Wood in Drew, MS, and graduated from Drew High School. He moved to the Greenwood area in the 1970’s where he resided for the majority of his life. He enjoyed fishing and quail hunting. He fished for red fish in Louisiana and enjoyed fishing in Mrs. Pam’s Ponds closer to home. He was known to his friends as “Bird Dog.”
He is survived by his wife, Judy Geoghagan Wood; two daughters, Casey Barrentine (Michael) of Greenwood, Leslie Smith (Larry) of Glendora; a brother, Charles Wood (Janice) of Mena, AR; a sister Shirley Muscio of Anchorage, AK; four grandchildren, Wood Barrentine of Greenwood, Lucy Barrentine of Greenwood, Tripp Smith of Glendora, Caroline Smith of Glendora; and two brothers-in-law, Gregg Geoghagan (Flo) of Greenwood and Tom Geoghagan (Marsha) of Baldwyn.
Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Bartlett, Michael Barrentine, Wood Barrentine, Larry Smith and Tripp Smith.
