W. Dorsey McDaniel, Jr. 85, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at his home in Greenwood with his family by his side. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Tuesday, February 27, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim Phillips officiating. Interment is in Moorhead Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 29.
Dorsey was born in Greenwood, MS to Walbridge Dorsey and Millie Stokes McDaniel on October 17, 1938. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School in 1956 and received his degree in Business from Mississippi State University. Dorsey was a Purchasing Agent for Supreme Electronics for over 40 years.
Dorsey served in the Mississippi National Guard and was activated in the integration of James Meredith at Ole Miss. He loved to be involved in the timber business. He enjoyed planting and watching the trees grow into maturity. He was awarded the “Northwest District Tree Farmer” of the year in 1990. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School along side his wife Nancy at the First Baptist Church. They will always be remembered by their students for the popcorn treats the were rewarded for learning the books of the Bible. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years, Nancy.
Dorsey is survived by his brother Sidney G. McDaniel of Greenwood; three sons, Vincent McDaniel of Greenwood, Keith McDaniel (Donna) of Hattiesburg, Michael McDaniel (Terri) of Greenwood six grandchildren, Paten McDaniel (Tori) of Canton, Karlie McDaniel (Phong) of Houston, TX, Kase McDaniel ( Dr. Hayley) of Houston, TX, Dr. Patrick McDaniel of Jackson, Brady McDaniel of Jackson, Avery McDaniel of Greenwood and four great-grandchildren, Addy Le, Finn Le, Emily Claire McDaniel and Celia McDaniel.
Pallbearers will be Rick Allen, Paten McDaniel, Dr. Patrick McDaniel, Brady McDaniel, Tim Taylor and Freddie Isom. Honorary pallbearers are Kase McDaniel, Walt Swider, David Floyd, Dan Cunningham and members of Lucky 13 Hunting Club
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of donor’s choice.
