DeWayne Clevenger, 57, passed away Monday, March 24,2025 at the University of MS Medical Center in Grenada. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Friday, March 28 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Rogers officiating. Visitation is Thursday evening from 4-6 P.M. and Friday from 10-11 A.M. prior to the service.
DeWayne grew up in Cleveland MS, where he loved drawing, painting, working on his first jeep and making things with his hands. At age 16, he took an after school job at a local Cleveland jewelry store, where he used his creativity to become a self-taught jeweler. DeWayne grew up with and eventually married the love of his life and best friend, Beverly Lorance, on his 23rd birthday. His craft eventually moved him and his bride to Greenwood, MS where he helped the Perry family with the startup of A Touch of Gold jewelry store. Later he would become self employed and open his own business, known as Clevenger Jewelry and Gifts. DeWayne loved making jewelry and working with his customers, many of which he also referred to as friends. His skill set was truly top level and during these times is becoming a lost art. He credits a lot of his success over the years to the other main ladies in his life, Sherry Hemphill and Fran Roberts, whom he also referred to as his extended family.
In DeWayne’s spare time, he loved traveling, boating, fishing, going to the beach and tinkering in his shop.
Even though he never had children, he was a loving pet parent to many dogs, cats, birds and fish over the years. DeWayne was a very sweet, kind hearted person and had a generous spirit. He will be missed by so many true friends and by his loving family.
DeWayne is survived by his wife, Beverly Clevenger of Teoc, MS; his sweet fur babies Lucky, Peanut, Smokey and Rascal; his parents Robert and Jean McDaniel of Cleveland, MS; sister Angie Gregory (Henry) of Cleveland, MS; brother Troy McDaniel of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-law Patricia Brown of Cleveland; nieces Shannon Schaeffer (Jonny) of Abita Springs, LA; Leah Johnson (Brandon) of Cleveland, MS and Mary Slay McDaniel of Greenwood, MS; nephews Chris Brown (Nora) of Atlanta, GA; Clayton Gregory (Miranda) of Pinson, AL and Robbie McDaniel of Greenwood, MS. He also leaves a host of great-nieces and great-nephews that also brought him so much joy.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Milwaukee Tool Blade Fabrication, HS Milling & Heat Treat employees for Greenwood and Grenada.
