David was born in Jackson to James Madison and Elizabeth Shute Pentecost and raised in Greenwood.  He was a graduate of Greenwood High School where he played in the school band and attended MS Delta Community College and Delta State University.  He had lived for a period of time in Clarksdale and Yazoo City before returning to Greenwood in 1990. He had recently retired after 42 years with AT&T.

David was a believer in Jesus Christ and was actively involved in North Greenwood Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a member of men’s ministry, the church choir, hand bell choir, audio and visual committee, and was a pitcher for the softball team.  He was a volunteer tech for AFR radio tower, volunteered for 8 Days of Hope, was a former high school football referee, and was a commissioner for the girls’ softball organization.  He also was an official crew member for the balloon festival, was a disk jockey with Roadstar mobile disco, and was an avid Ole Miss football fan. He enjoyed water skiing and biking but mostly David enjoyed traveling and camping with his family.

David is survived by his wife, Celia Wade Pentecost; two daughters, Lindsey Hair (Ben), Marley Sullivan (Dustin) and both of Greenwood; a sister, Sharon Watkins (Earley) of Moody, TX, and 5 grandchildren; Chloe Hair, Ella Hair, Dean Sullivan, Henry Hair, and Sadie Sullivan all of Greenwood.

Pallbearers will be Woody Whites, Al Beck, Kent Tucker, Kevin Stevens, Conner Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Jackie Sims and Jason McDonald.  Honorary pallbearers are members of the Men’s Ministry.
