Daniel Dale, Sr Obituary

Daniel Anthony Dale, Sr, 76, of Glendora, MS passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2025. Born on April 13, 1948 in Greenwood, MS, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Charlotte Pinkston Dale and his sons Daniel Anthony Dale, Jr. (Katie) and Dr. Wood Whittington Dale (Kelly). His grandchildren include Daniel Anthony Dale III, Katharine Maree Dale, and Wood Whittington Dale II. He leaves a brother, James Yeager Dale of Greenwood, stepsister Penny Sanders Varner of Vicksburg, nieces Ellen Dale O’neal (Kenny) of Madison, Kathryn Dale Roland (Sessions) of Madison, Mary Dabney Dale Goldbeck of Starkville, nephew James Yeager Dale, Jr. (Lauren) of Greenwood and numerous step nieces, step nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind a special extended family of in-laws including the Pinkston Family, Malouf Family, Howard Family, and the family of Sally Scott Ellis. He is preceded in death by his mother Ellen Yeager Dale, his father Madison Sylvester Dale Sr., his stepmother Janie Sanders Dale, his brother Madison Sylvester Dale, Jr., his sister-in-law Pi Dale, step-sister Mary Sanders Hughes, and step-sister Peggy Sanders Sparkman.

Danny grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1966. He attended Mississippi State University, Belhaven College, and graduated from Delta State University with a Political Science degree. After graduating college, he began his farming career with Prince Spencer at Louie Spencer Farm in Itta Bena, MS. He joined his brother, Matt Dale, in the family farming operation at Ellendale Plantation in Glendora, MS in 1974. He and his brother produced cotton, corn, soybeans, and wheat for 22 years. He also oversaw a largescale pecan producing orchard within the family farm consisting of over 800 trees. In 1996, Danny stepped away from farming and began working at Unicel Communications until his retirement in 2008. He then worked part time at Sturdivant Brother’s Flying Service.

Danny served in the past as treasurer of Greenwood Farmer’s Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Hill & Delta Savings and Loan in Charleston, MS, and President of Bayou Bend Country Club.

Earlier in his life, Danny would spend his time with his family & friends, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors at the Dale family home at Spring Lake Ranch and Ellendale Plantation. He took pleasure in tending to his yard at Ellendale and keeping up with current events.

 The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Henry Flautt, Dr. Rachael Faught, Dr. Stephanie Elkins, Dr. James Hamilton, Dr. Mike McMullan, UMMC Medical doctors, Vital Caring Home Health & Hospice, UMMC Grenada Ambulatory Services, UMMC CCU of Grenada, Father Andrew Nguyen, as well as all of Danny’s home health caregivers.

Honorary pall bearers are Prince Spencer, Bill Brown, Chris Iskra, Tommy Gregory, Eddie Stuckey, Tommy Gary, Dale Pillow, and Jimmy Flautt.

 A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, March 1st at 11:00am. Visitation will be held before the Mass from 9am to 11am.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Locus Benedictus Special Needs Playground Fund, St. Jude Children's Reasearch Hospital or the charity of donor's choice.
