Charlotte Smith Obituary


Charlotte F. Smith, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Saturday morning, August 3, 2024, at her home in Carroll County.  Funeral services are 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 6th at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Blain Craig (her nephew) officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.  Visitation is from noon until 2:00 prior to the service at the church.

Charlotte was born in Lepanto, AR, raised in Osceola, AR and graduated from Osceola High School.  She moved to Greenwood in 1970, worked for the MS Employment Security Commission for 27 years, retired, and opened Southern Creations Antiques in Winona which she owned and operated for several years.  She was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 53 years where she taught Sunday School and Discipleship Training. Her faith and her family were the most important things in her life.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Mary Sue Ricketts and a brother, Jimmy “Bo” Ricketts, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dwayne A. Smith; a daughter, Suzanne Smith of Menlo, GA; a son, Kevin Smith (Linda) of McCarley, MS; a sister, Jean Craig (Mike) of Sherwood, AR, a sister-in-law, Betty Ricketts of Bedford TX; four grandchildren, Michael Turner (Brooke) of Jackson, MS, William O’Brien of Huntsville, AL, Charlotte “Carley” Pirkle (Trey) of Troy MO, Austin Smith of McCarley and two great-grandchildren, Easton Turner of Jackson, MS and Goldie Pirkle of Troy, MO.

Pallbearers will be Michael Turner, William O’Brien, Austin Smith, Gregory Pearson, Dr. Daniel Henderson and Michael Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society or the charity of donor’s choice.
