GREENWOOD- Robert “Bobby” Whittington, age 64, of Greenwood, MS, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 in Grenada County.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 27 from 10:00 AM at North Greenwood Baptist Church with the celebration of life service following at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Cruger, MS. Dr. Jim Phillips and Rev. Lewis Harrell will officiate the services.
Bobby was born on June 1, 1957 in Clarksdale, MS to James L. Whittington, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Moore Whittington. He was a graduate of Clarksdale High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Delta State University. He also attended Blue Mountain College and Mississippi Delta Community College. He served as Minister of Music for various churches in the delta. He was currently serving as Minister of Music for Carrollton Baptist Church. Bobby was the director of the Ambassadors at Mississippi Delta Community College. He was the band director and taught science at Pillow Academy. He loved working with and making a difference in the kids’ lives. Bobby loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping. Boating was his passion. Most importantly, he loved the Lord and enjoyed bringing people to worship. Bobby was a humble, simple man. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Whittington, Sr., and Dorothy Mae Moore Whittington.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Brenda Matthews Daves Whittington of Greenwood, MS; 3 sons; Jason Whittington(Lee) of Indianola, MS, Alan Whittington(Anna) of Bartlett, TN, Johnny Daves(Cherry) of Carrollton, MS; 1 Daughter, Julie Daves Hodges(Mickey) of Eupora, MS; 2 Brothers, Jimmy Whittington, Jr. (Lois) of Bartlett, TN and Rick Whittington (Carol) of Clarksdale, MS; Grandchildren, Aden Blansett, Joseph Daves, Tate Whittington, Carden Hodges, Nolan Hodges, Harper Whittington, Madeline Whittington, Hank Whittington and Marley Whittington.
Pallbearers will be Matt Hudson, Gary Robinson, Mark Kelly, Barry Grantham, J.R. Ray, Lewis Harrell and Ronnie Poe. Honorary pallbearers will be Pillow Academy students and faculty.
