Blanche Thompson Hardin, 85, passed away at her home Monday, September 22, 2025, with her husband and children by her side.
Blanche was born to James Owen and Bertha Lou Perritt Thompson in Columbus, MS. Her family relocated to Hernando when she was in the fifth grade. She graduated from Hernando High School and MSCW, now the MS University for Women, with a degree in Home Economics. She also received certifications in Food Service and Childcare. Her first job was teaching Home Economics at New Hope. She and her husband Danny moved to Greenwood in 1962, where she taught for 27 years. She taught Home Economics at Greenwood Junior High and Leflore County. She then taught Food Service and Childcare at the Vocational-Technical Center of Greenwood High School. Blanche was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class, Women's Circle 7, the handbell choir, the Bereavement Committee, assisted with Vacation Bible School, and co-taught the United Methodist Youth Fellowship group for 28 years.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bertha Hardin; and a granddaughter, Jamison Claire Hardin. She is survived by her husband, Danny Hardin; a daughter, Kathy Hardin Pinson (Mickey) of Belzoni; two sons, Jimmy Hardin (Orly) of Starkville, Tom Hardin (Amanda) of Greenwood; sister, Janie Norwood of Hernando; eight grandchildren, Noa Katherine Hampton (Boston), Owen Hardin, Chloe Hardin, Allison Hardin, Ashley Hardin, Bailey Pinson, Mari Michael Pinson, Jana Kate Pinson; and one great-grandchild, Hudson Hampton.
Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Greenwood, MS, on Sunday, October 5, from 2 to 4 pm.
