Clinton William “Billy” Walker, Jr., 87, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the University of MS Medical Center in Grenada. Funeral services will be held on July 8, 2023 at North Greenwood Baptist Church, with visitation from 1-3 P.M. in the church parlor, and services to follow at 3 o’clock. Dr. Jim Phillips and Rev. Ed McDaniel will be officiating.
Billy was born in Tupelo and moved to Greenwood at an early age. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1953 and Miss. State University in 1957 with degrees in history and accounting. He was a student teacher at MSU and also taught night school in Greenwood for a short time before passing the four-part accounting exam on his first attempt. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and ran high hurdles on a track scholarship for the MSU track team, holding the state high hurdle record for ten years.
After becoming a certified public accountant, he first joined the firm of Walker, Middleton, Tucker, Martin, and Armstrong; later he worked with his father at Walker and Associates and finished his career at the BFMW Group retiring at the age of 83. At the time of his retirement, he was the oldest practicing C.P.A. in the state of MS.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He later joined North Greenwood Baptist Church. He had also served on the Executive board and as Chairman of Royal Maid, Inc. (National Industries for the Blind) for over 25 years, and held numerous professional and civic boards.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann Howard Aven Walker, three sons, Bill Walker (Anne) of Greenville, John Walker of Jackson, Danny Walker (Cindy) of Greenwood; a sister, Libby Lubas Walker of Greenwood, and niece, Darla Kimes also of Greenwood; eight Grandchildren, Chris Walker (Sara), Elizabeth Ann Williams (Tyler), Reynolds Walker, Leigh Ann Walker, Daniel Walker, Jr. (Beka), Lindsay Stroble (Martin), Kasi Breaux (Sky), Lindsi Junkin (Cade); and 8 great grandchildren, Christopher, Charlie, Fox, Anniston, Hudson, Whit, Sawyer and Charlotte.
Pallbearers will be Chris Walker, Reynolds Walker, Daniel Walker, Jr, Martin Stroble, Sky Young, Cade Junkin, Carter Kimes and Wally Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Fulton, Harry Lott, Walt Diggs, Gary Archer, Gary Bright, Bardin Redditt and Wayne Bush.
The family wishes to extend a Special thanks to caregivers Madel Cordova, Fredric Barnes, and Dr. Michael Boler.
Billy enjoyed his friendships and cherished those times spent with them hunting, fishing, flying and cooking.
Memorials may be made to North Greenwood Baptist Church or the charity of donor’s choice.
