W. C. “Bill” Thornburg, Sr., 88, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Indywood Glen in Greenwood. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Williamson officiating. Interment is in Teoc Presbyterian Church cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30-11 A.M. prior to the service.
Bill was born to William P. and Ludie Heffner Thornburg in Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High School and was a lifelong resident. He worked for Planters Oil Mill for 30 years before becoming a self employed home improvement contractor, retiring in 1994. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and oversaw many building projects.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Ann Thornburg, his parents, a brother, R. C. Thornburg and wife Louise, and two sisters Mavis Gwaltney and Virgie Denton. He is survived by a daughter, Mitzi Kirk (Massey); a son, William C. “Bill” Thornburg, Jr. (Tina); 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Dallas (Brittany), Drake Thornburg, (Courtney), Elliott Thornburg (Georgia); and seven great grandchildren, Haley Brooke Dallas, Charlie Dallas, Ann Grace Thornburg, Jane Hollins Thornburg, Katherine Thornburg, Benton Thornburg and Smith Thornburg all of Greenwood.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Nause and staff, The staff at Indywood Glen and the healthcare caretakers especially Matthew Blackmon.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
Pallbearers will be James Yeoman, Brad Garrard, J. T. Nason, Ronnie Bush, William Tucker, and Mike Ellis.
