Betty Chrismond Makamson Johnson, 81, of Greenwood and formerly of Itta Bena, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at her home in Greenwood, surrounded by her family. Funeral services are 2:00 P.M. Sunday July18 at North Greenwood Baptist Church, with Dr. Jim Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Visitation is Saturday evening from 4- 6 P. M. at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.
Betty was born February 3, 1940 in Sunflower, MS to Renford N. and Flora G. Chrismond. She lived most of her life in Itta Bena where she grew up and graduated high school, and married her childhood sweetheart, George B. Makamson. They were members of First Baptist Church and sang in the church choir.
Betty loved her family. Her grandchildren were her heart. She loved to plant and grow flowers and was known as a wonderful cook. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George B. Makamson, a sister, Bobbie Vaughn and a brother R. N. Chrismond, Jr.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James G. Johnson, whom she married March 23, 2010. She is also survived by three daughters, Pam Bush (David) of Schlater, Pennye Makamson of Cleveland, Angie Flowers (Eddie) of Holcomb; a son, Barry Makamson (Anna) of Greenwood; three sisters, Carolyn Nix (Jerry) of Winona, Brenda Hamby (Tom) of Lodi, Beverly Tindall of Greenwood; step-children, Sonny Johnson (Deanna) of Morgan City, Bob Johnson (Donna) of Starkville, Beth Johnson of Swiftown. Her loving grandchildren are, Chism Patterson (Becca), Mary Fisher Carroll (Brad) Ashlea Galey (Michael), Brad Overley (Lacy), Meagan Little (Matthew), Allen Flowers (Heather), Kimberly Hooker, Julie Flowers, Mary Britton Nobile (Andrew), George Hubbard, Jay Mitchell (Tinsley), John Patterson (Laura), Brock Makamson, Mari Parker Makamson, Ben Bush (Ashley), and Alex Bush, and numerous great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chism Patterson, Brad Overley, John Patterson, Jay Mitchell, George Hubbard and Brock Makamson.
